Support for local weavers affected by the earthquake, why it matters and how we are helping them.

On February 6th, several devastating earthquakes hit Turkey, my home country. Many thousands of wonderful people lost their lives and those surviving have not only lost their families and close ones but also their motivation to keep their businesses alive, particularly when their workspaces and equipment have been damaged or destroyed.

Antakya, the capital of Hatay Province in the south of the country, is close to the Syrian border, which was one of the worst hit areas. It has a rich history dating back to ancient times and has been a bridge in the continuation of traditional local crafts passed on to us today. The most significant of these include weaving, embroidery, pottery, and metalwork. In particular the city is well known for its high-quality textiles including silk and cotton weavings often embellished with vibrant embroidery patterns and handiwork.

Supporting local artisans and sustaining their craftwork are part of Adaste Home’s long-term commitments. In difficult times such as these, we, as a brand have determined to work with communities from the earthquake areas to promote their artisanal work. In collaboration with local weavers, we have developed a limited edition in a line of high quality peshtemals. By supporting these artisans now, we know we are not only enabling earthquake victims to regain their living but also promoting the continuation of traditional crafts and skills.

Check-out our Limited Edition Antakya Collection on our website and be a part of this cultural and historical endeavor.
