International Women’s Day: Embracing Equity and Creating Opportunities for All Women

Today is March 8th, celebrated throughout the world as International Women’s Day in recognition of the many social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. It is also a day to raise awareness about gender inequality and the ongoing struggle for women's rights. This year, the theme for International Women's Day is “Embrace Equity" which recognizes that each person has different circumstances, and allocates the exact resources and opportunities needed to reach an equal outcome.

As we celebrate International Women's Day this year, it is important to reflect on the progress that has been made towards gender equality, while also recognizing the work that still needs to be done. The IWD 2023 #EmbraceEquity campaign theme seeks to get the world talking about why "equal opportunities are no longer enough" - and can in fact be exclusionary, rather than inclusive. Equity and equality are two related but distinct concepts.

Equality refers to treating everyone the same way, regardless of their individual differences or circumstances. It assumes that everyone has the same needs, abilities, and starting points, and that fairness requires treating them equally. Equity, on the other hand, refers to treating people fairly and justly, taking into account their individual differences and circumstances. It recognizes that different people have different needs, abilities, and starting points, and that fairness requires treating them differently to achieve equality. Equity seeks to address historic and systemic disparities and create a level playing field for everyone, so that all individuals can reach their full potential.

As Adaste Home, caring about our women artisans rights and creating a fair and inclusive workplace are important priorities for us. Women have historically faced discrimination and unequal treatment in the workplace, including lower pay, limited opportunities for advancement, and harassment and discrimination based on gender. As a company, we are determined to create a safe and supportive environment for all our women employees and inclusive workplace that values their diversity and provides equal opportunities for them all.

On this International Women's Day, let us all choose to challenge gender inequality and work towards creating a more equal society. By standing together and advocating for women's rights, we can create a world where all women can thrive and achieve their full potential.

As the official IWD website quoted; “ For International Women's Day and beyond, let's all fully #EmbraceEquity “ (International Women's day 2023 campaign theme: #EmbraceEquity)

Our best wishes to all women
